In Ghost of Tsushima, players take on the role of Jin Sakai, one of the last surviving samurai on Tsushima Island. As the last samurai on the island, Jin stands as the final obstacle and threat against the invasion of the Mongols. As he loses his comrades and his world is shattered during the last battle between the Mongols, Jin faces a decision of continuing to fight the Mongols as a lone-wolf and will do whatever it takes to fight General Khotun Khan of the Mongol Empire for the freedom and independence of Japan.
About Ghost of Tsushima
Ghost of Tsushima is set on the island of Tsushima, Feudal Japan in the late 13th Century where players can explore a large open world which consists of diverse areas, settlements, fields, shrines, forests, landmarks, landscapes, and many more.
Players will take on the role of Jin Sakai who was raised and trained as a Samurai. In the late 12th century, the Mongols sent out their fleet and troops to invade Tsushima Island, where a battle happened between the samurai of the island against the Mongels. The samurai forces fought in honor but were brutally killed and defeated and Jin is one of the survivors of his clan. There his world shattered and has decided to continue fighting off the Mongels as a lone-wolf. Jin will have to use unconventional methods, learn and master new skills, and use his training to defeat the Mongol Empire and to free Tsushima Island.
Ghost of Tsushima Gameplay
Ghost of Tsushima is directed by Nate Fox, developed by Sucker Punch Productions, and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game features an action-adventure and stealth genre that features a large open world where players can freely explore the diverse locations and travel these areas by using mounts at any given point in the game. The game is heavily inspired by classic Japanese cinematography that features the traditional samurai storyline such as Seven Samurai that was released in 1954 and Sanjur in 1962.
The game's protagonist features Jin Sakai, the last surviving member of the samurai who battled against the Mongel's invasion of Tsushima Island. As a trained samurai, players can engage in combat with enemies in different ways, such as stealth, or by challenging them to a "standoff". During Jin's exploration, he will also encounter various enemies or situations that require him to use unconventional methods in battle and exploration to complete his tasks. Jin will have to learn and master new techniques, battle in the way of the samurai or the ghost, exploit the weaknesses of his enemies, and use his tools and the environment around him to his advantage. The various new and traditional ways of the samurai warrior that can be used by the player on how to approach certain situations will be an interesting and refreshing new take on how action RPG games are viewed.
Ghost of Tsushima Release Date
Ghost of Tsushima (GoT) was released on July 17, 2020, which is exclusive to the PlayStation®4. According to the game's director, Nate Fox, the team distilled the game's numerous internal pitches into "the fantasy of becoming a samurai" during conceptualization. To ensure that the title would be an accurate representation of feudal Japan, the creative and diverse team of Sucker Punch consulted cultural experts and sent an audio team to Japan to record different sounds that would be an exotic and raw element to the game.
