Blood on the Grass is a Main Quest in Ghost of Tsushima (GoT). Main Quests in Ghost of Tsushima (GoT) are categorized as "Jin's Journey", these are highlighted in Gold and focuses on the main campaign of the game. Completing main quests reward Jin with various items such as reputation points, tools, resources, charms, and story progression. Please see Quests for other walkthroughs on other tasks.
The mercenary Straw Hat ronin may be tough around the edges, but I could use their blades to help rescue Lord Shimura.
I should look them up and see if they're open to some work. Apparently they've been seen hunting Mongols in the Kishi Grasslands.

Blood on the Grass Walkthrough
Travel to the coast by the Kishi Grasslands
- To start this quest, open your Journal and track the tale Blood on the Grass.
- The starting objective will be automatically marked on the map which is around Kishi Grasslands.
- When you arrive, you'll see smoke in the air coming from a Mongol convoy that's on fire. Approach the convoy and investigate the area for clues.
Follow the trail of dead Mongols
- Follow the road ahead and you'll see more bodies of the Mongols.
- You will then reach a forest. Follow the marker and you'll find a straw hat on the ground. Interact with it and a cutscene will trigger.
- You'll find that the one who killed the Mongols earlier is one of Jin's friends, Ryuzo.
- Jin asks for Ryuzo's help to help save Lord Shimura but is ambushed by more Mongol soldiers.
Defeat the Mongols with Ryuzo
- You'll immediately enter a Standoff. Kill the first enemy at the right time, then fight the rest along with Ryuzo.
- By now you should have your Half Bow if you did the Tale of Sensei Ishikawa. Use it to shoot enemies that are far from you or about to rush towards you.
- Be patient when facing the enemies, you'll encounter the brute types, archer, and swordsmen, as well as a Mongol Leader.
- After defeating all of the soldiers, another cutscene will trigger.
Travel with Ryuzo to his Straw Hat camp
- Next, mount your horse and travel with Ryuzo to the Straw Hat camp. Simply follow him.
- Along the way, you will come across a broken wagon. Speak to the peasant and he'll mention that the Mongols took his belongings and went to Fort Ohira.
- You'll have to ignore that for now and continue traveling with Ryuzo to the camp.
Pick up the ronin armor
- When you reach the camp, another cutscene will trigger.
- Jin offers to help the group to collect food and resources. Luckily, the traveler you bumped into earlier mentioned where the Mongols went with the supplies.
- After the cutscene, walk with Ryuzo to his personal camp and he'll mention that there's a spare armor that you can use in the chest.
- Examine the chest and collect the Ronin Attire and the Weathered Straw Hat.
- Another cutscene will then trigger and you'll complete this quest.
- The Ronin Attire increases the melee damage and it will be difficult for enemies to detect Jin.
