The Sensei and the Student is a Side Quest in Ghost of Tsushima (GoT). Tales of Tsushima are categorized as the typical side quests of the game, these are optional where players partake through side activities of the game that advances side plots of the game. Side Quests heavily focuses on stories that revolve around NPCs encountered throughout the game. Completing a side quest rewards Jin with unique items and many more.
An Ishikawa Tale (2 of 9).
Sensei Ishikawa and I learned that his former student, Tomoe, has sided with the Mongols. He asked me to meet him at his dojo so we can continue the hunt to track her down.

The Sensei and the Student Walkthrough
Travel to Ishikawa's Dojo
- This side quest becomes available after completing The Tale of Sensei Ishikawa.
- Open your Journal in the menu and track the tale to mark the location of the first objective.
- Travel by mount or use Fast Travel to Sensei Ishikawa's Dojo. It's on the east side of the map near the Hidden Springs Forest.
- When you arrive, head towards the Dojo and speak to Sensei Ishikawa to start the side quest.
- You'll learn from Ishikawa that a local saw a Mongols training at an archery range and he suspects that Tomoe is with them. Follow him from the Dojo until you reach the next marked location.
- Next, climb the walls to reach the top of the cliff and then speak to him.
Inspect the target
- After the cutscene, collect some arrows that are next to Ishikawa then climb down the cliff.
- You'll need to inspect the small Mongol camp where they were training. You'll see a severed head placed inside the bag.
- Now, use focused hearing and you'll see that there are Mongol soldiers inside the nearby building waiting to ambush you.
- Be ready to fight and kill them all. There will be archers here, a soldier wielding a shield, two guards with a spear, and a dog.
- Once you've cleared the area, speak to Sensei Ishikawa to trigger another cutscene.
Track the Mongols
- Next, you'll see some a trail of footprints. Follow it until you reach a small village.
- You'll need to save the villagers from the Mongol guards.
- Keep an eye out for the guard who will try to kill the villagers!
- If you see an icon appear with a skull and bones. Quickly rush to their aid and kill the Mongol guard who's about to assassinate them. Leaving the villagers to die will fail this quest.
- Simply kill all the enemies before freeing the captives, then speak to Ishikawa again after the cutscene.
