The Way of the Bow Walkthrough
Return to Ishikawa's Dojo
- This side quest becomes available after completing The Sensei and the Student.
- Open your Journal in the menu and track the tale to mark the location of the first objective.
- Travel by mount or use Fast Travel to Sensei Ishikawa's Dojo. It's on the east side of the map near the Hidden Springs Forest.
- When you arrive, head towards the Dojo and speak to Sensei Ishikawa who's sitting outside to start the side quest.
Defend the Dojo
- After the cutscene, prepare for battle against a few waves of Mongol soldiers. You will face a lot of shieldsmen here, so use the Water Stance against them. If you see archers, quickly use your bow and shoot them down.
- You simply need to survive and defeat the Mongols. Once you've cleared the area, speak to Ishikawa to progress the quest.
- It seems that the attack was only to slow you down and to draw you away from the real battle. Follow Ishikawa and head to the village in Hiyoshi Springs.
- When you're near, you'll bump into one of the townspeople. Ishikawa warns them about the attack and instructs them to gather at the inn.
Defeat the Mongol Forces
- Next, head to the survey point and scout the area ahead. You will obtain the Flaming Arrow here.
- Simply press the L2 + △ buttons to equip the flame imbued arrows.
- Wait for the Mongol soldiers to attack then shoot them down from afar. Fire the flaming arrows towards pampas grass as well to block their way or to burn them.
- The best tactic is to shoot them while they charge in, and then finish them off with your melee attacks once they're close to you.
- You will be switching between Stone Stance and Water Stance here since you'll be fighting shieldsmen and swordsmen.
- A couple of spearsmen and brute-type enemies will also appear here. Most likely you won't have the appropriate combat stance to defeat these types of enemies. So the best way to take them out is to shoot them with your bow, then use melee attacks once they're near you. Also, make sure to dodge their red unblockable attacks.
- Once you've killed all the enemies, a cutscene will then trigger and you'll see Tomoe from afar burning the Nagao banner - this completes the side quest.
