The Past Never Passes is a Side Quest in Ghost of Tsushima (GoT). Tales of Tsushima are categorized as the typical side quests of the game, these are optional where players partake through side activities of the game that advances side plots of the game. Side Quests heavily focuses on stories that revolve around NPCs encountered throughout the game. Completing a side quest rewards Jin with unique items and many more.
An Ishikawa Tale (3 of 9).
Sensei Ishikawa’s traitorous former student, Tomoe, is training Mongol archers in Hiyoshi. We stopped some from brutalizing a small settlement, but Tomoe is still out there. I will meet Ishikawa at his dojo to plan our next move.

The Past Never Passes Walkthrough
Return to Ishikawa's Dojo
- This side quest becomes available after completing The Sensei and the Student.
- Open your Journal in the menu and track the tale to mark the location of the first objective.
- Travel by mount or use Fast Travel to Sensei Ishikawa's Dojo. It's on the east side of the map near the Hidden Springs Forest.
- When you arrive, head towards the Dojo and speak to Sensei Ishikawa to start the side quest. Ishikawa mentions that he is planning on defending Hiyoshi Springs.
- Follow him to the back of his dojo towards the survey point then begin scouting the area ahead.
Reach the coastal road
- After scouting the area, head to the bottom of the dojo by climbing down the walls then make your way to the coastal road with Ishikawa.
- It is automatically marked on the map, but use Guiding Wind to point you towards the right direction if ever you get lost.
- Once you're near the coastal road, your objective will update and change to "Keep an eye out for Mongols".
- You can challenge one of the Mongol guards to a standoff then eliminate the remaining ones.
- After killing them, continue heading down towards the coastal road until you reach a bridge. Use Guiding Wind to identify which way to go.
- When you reach the bridge, you'll be ambushed by a small group of Mongol guards. Keep an eye out for the Archers positioned at the top of a cliff on the right side. Shoot them down with your bow.
- Now, you'll need to reach the road south. Again, use Guiding Wind to help you.
- You'll eventually reach another group of Mongol guards. You can easily kill the ones positioned on the top of a hill with your bow.
- Clear the remaining guards and then kill the Mongol leader to complete the quest.
