Laid to Rest Walkthrough

Meet Sensei Ishikawa near the Umugi Border

  • This quest is available after completing "Friends in Passing".
  • Open your map or journal to track the location of this side quest.
  • Head to Kazumasa's Isle in the Toyotama region where you'll find Ishikawa at a burnt village.
  • After the cutscene, ride with Ishikawa and head north of Umugi Cove towards an old gambling den where Tomoe is waiting.
  • Head to the den and confront Tomoe about the Mongol archers who are planning an attack.

Survive the Mongol Ambush

  • During the conversation, you'll hear the Mongol alarm and you'll be attacked by Mongol forces.
  • Tomoe and Ishikawa will fight alongside you, simply survive the ambush and defeat all the Mongols to progress the quest.
  • Prioritize the Mongol archers and the ones wielding a cannon by shooting them down with your bow. You'll also encounter some spearmen and some swordsmen. So use Stone Stance against the swordsmen and Wind Stance against the spearmen.
  • If ever, one of your allies has fallen, make sure to help them get back up. Allowing them to die will fail the quest.
  • After clearing the area of Mongols, speak to Tomoe to trigger a cutscene. Follow Tomoe and Ishikawa to Umugi Cove and you'll encounter a Mongol patrol along the way.
  • The Mongol patrol will be archers, and swordsmen, so try to take out the archers first before killing the swordsmen - speak to Ishikawa after clearing out the Mongol patrol then continue following the two towards Umugi Cove.
  • As you work your way through the Field of the Equinox Flower, which is a large field full of red flowers, you'll encounter another Mongol patrol along the way.
  • Avoid getting hit by the archer's arrow since it can poison you. If ever you are poisoned, quickly heal yourself with the down button on the D-pad - kill all the enemies and head to the nearby grove to rest.
  • When you reach the "Scarlet Rock Shrine" another cutscene will trigger.

Defeat the Mongols

  • When night falls, you'll begin the ambush. The primary objective here is to not be seen by the Mongols, so you'll need to stick close with Ishikawa and Tomoe and sneak your way around the Mongols as you take them out as quiet as possible.
  • Tomoe and Ishikawa will help you take out the guards here so just listen to them and kill your target with your bow whenever they give the signal.
  • Eventually, you'll cross the field of red flowers and reach a Mongol camp.

Find a Way through the Bog

  • When you reach the swamp section where Mongols have set up a campsite, you still need to avoid being detected and to sneak through the bog.
  • Execute a stealth kill if necessary, but all you need to do is to head to the marked objective undetected. Don't forget to use the pampas grass to hide from the Mongols - when you reach Lady Sanjo's Bridge, another cutscene will trigger.

Defeat the Force Threatening Umugi Cove

  • Wait for Tomoe to get in position before you start to attack.
  • Once she ignites the black powder cache, charge in, and kill all the Mongols.
  • You can use Ghost Stance immediately if it's available so that you can instantly kill a couple of them.
  • After killing all the Mongol guards, speak to Ishikawa and another cutscene will trigger. It seems Tomoe went to Umugi Cove, follow Ishikawa, and catch up after her.
  • Along the way, you will find a peasant, speak to him and Jin will ask the guy if he has seen a woman run by. You'll learn that Tomoe is headed to the beach near Umugi Cove.

Don’t Let Tomoe Get Off the Island

  • Work your way through Umugi Cove and head towards the marked objective.
  • When you arrive, another cutscene will trigger where you'll see Tomoe on a boat sailing off.
  • This completes the side quest and ends Ishikawa's tale. You'll be rewarded with the following items:
